Two angles on 89 mm
Kutsuttiin vieraita aurinkoiseen Australiaan. Parin selkeän päivän jälkeen vettä on tulla lotissut yötä päivää. Eilisiltana tv:n pääuutisissa mainittiin kotipaikkakuntamme koko maan vetisimpänä kolkkana. 89 millimetriä yhdessä yössä.
Portaiden vieressä kökötti sademittarina suurikokoinen kottikärry, joka täyttyi melkein ääriään myöten parissa päivässä.
Onneksi vieraita ei tuntunut omituinen asiaintila pahasti vaivaavan. Sateesta nirvanaan vaipuneiden sammakkojen villi kurnutus oli kuulemma yksinomaan eksoottista.
Tänään aamu vihdoin alkeni aurinkoisena. Puurot naamaan ja kiireellä kansallispuistoon kävelemään ennen kuin iltapäiväksi luvatut sadekuurot ehtisivät kohdalle. Perillä Fitzroy Fallsilla paljastui 89 millimetrin aurinkoinen puoli: vesiputoukset kohisivat valtoimenaan. Tajusin nyt vasta, etten ollut kuivuuden vaivaamina vuosina nähnyt kyseisiä nähtävyyksiä ollenkaan oikeissa mittasuhteissa.
Nuori australiankuningaskaija (Alisterus scapularis) aterioi akaasiapensaissa ja päästi uteliaat parin metrin päähän. Kuvassa on vähän enemmän järkeä jos klikkaat sen suuremmaksi.
Olivat onneksi rukanneet säätiedotusta. Illalla saatiin ihailla auringonlaskua verannalla gin & tonicit kourassa, ja huominenkin saattaa olla kaunis.

It has been raining for days now. Hard to imagine that just a few months ago we were officially in drought.
It is slightly embarrassing to invite visitors to sunny Australia, just to let them hear in the evening news that your home town is officially the rainiest piece of the whole country. 89 mm in one night! The wheelbarrow next to the front steps had filled up overnight, and frogs in nearby dams are having the Eurovision song contest.
Today the rain had ceased, so we gulped down our morning porridge in record time and rushed to Fitzroy Falls for a bush walk. It was there that the sunny side of the 89 mm of rain was revealed to us: the waterfalls that have during the drought years been quite a modest tourist attraction had doubled in size. In fact I think there were more of them.
A fantastic morning walk. And what's more important, our visitors seem completely happy and haven't uttered a word of complaint about the weather.

We'll keep our fingers crossed for the rain to stop in Robertson. It has rained all day here,too but as it is well into autumn that is to be expected here. Yours is probably 'warm' rain and strangely enough ours is too - most unseasonable but welcome!

Dear Marjorie,The weather has improved and we have had a couple of quite hot, steamy days. Today (Friday) is foggy again. Probably good since Dad has burnt his shoulders! We told him it would happen. But he had to see for himself.Anni
