Seitsenvuotiaana istuin ranneluu mäenlaskun jäljiltä kahtena kappaleena Kerhomäen sairaalan poliklinikalla odottamassa röntgeniin pääsyä. Vielä kotona lapsi oli itkenyt ja kiemurrellut tuskissaan, mutta sairaalan antiseptiset tuoksut ja valkeat takit olivat tehneet pienen tytön mielessä tehtävänsä. "Isä nyt ei enää koske."

Tosielämässä ihmeparantumiseen tarvittiin vielä puudutuspiikkejä, kahden lääkärin tarmokasta ranteen murjontaa, lisää röntgeniä, olkapäähän ulottuva, kahden kuukauden kipsi sekä mäenlaskukielto.

IT-alan kanssa on vähän niin kuin päin vastoin. Sitä tuntee luissaan, että ongelmia on paljon enemmän ja syvemmällä kuin IT-tohtorit antavat ymmärtää. "Problem resolved. Ei mitään ongelmia täällä päässä." Näin kerrottiin kahdesti perjantaina iltapäivällä, kun asiakas ihmetteli hitaita tai poissaolevia kotisivujaan. Ja sitten sukellettiin. Lauantaina, kun ei tarvinnut lukea sähköpostia eikä blogata, oli aikaa leipoa korvapuusteja ja osallistua talkoisiin. Oli mukavaa ja sosiaalista.

Tänään kuin ihmeen kautta kaikki tuntuu taas pelaavan. En ole katkera yhtään, mutta pessimistinä ounastelen, että ongelmat kukaties palaavat. Huomenna luultavasti kertovat, että serverin päässä kaikki tuntuu pelaavan normaalisti (rouva varmaan kuvittelee). Siksi pistän vaatimattomat tilastoni tältä viikolta vastoin tapojani näkyville.

Once upon a time, when I was 7 years old, I broke a wrist bone in an accident involving a speedy downhill ride together with two cousins. I was in a lot of pain and my Dad promptly took me to hospital for diagnosis and treatment.

I remember sitting there, waiting to be x-rayed, smelling the antiseptic hospital smells, watching the doctors and nurses rush past. "It doesn't hurt any more, Dad."

I wasn't dreading the x-ray, I really felt that the hospital atmosphere had miraculously cured the pain. In reality it took some local anesthetic, severe arm-twisting by two doctors, an impressive full arm-length plaster cast and two months plus without any winter games.

It is the other way round, sort of, with IT doctors. A speedy answer through email "Problem resolved" is much appreciated but it also makes you suspicious. You feel in your bones that there are serious, underlying problems somewhere deep in the system. I got this instant remedy treatment twice this Friday afternoon in response to my complaints about slow behaviour of my site. I found it impressive but dreaded more trouble, with the weekend starting and all. Sure enough, at 6 pm or so on Friday I no longer had my little kingdom on the internet. Or if I had, I couldn't reach it.

Without emails or blogging, I had a nice time on Saturday - I baked cinnamon rolls and took part in a working bee at the CTC. (I met the mysterious Patrice Duval. Very eccentric. Denis didn't like her coffee.)

Today my virtual kingdom is back, for now anyway. As a memento, I am posting this week's statistics. I am a bit of a pessimist and don't quite think we have seen the end of it yet. Plus I know that on Monday I'll be told that everything is quite normal at the server end. Surely they wouldn't be as bold as to suggest the lady imagined it all? But just in case...
