Nuorallamatelijoista
Go and see the snail circus

Don't miss this: Denis has posted photos about Jasper's Snail Circus on his blog (don't be deterred by the big man with a silicone gun). Featured are two snail acts: the high wire act and the walking-over-the-pool-full-of-sharks act. There were also acrobats and trapezists.
(Snails pictured are the wild, untrained type.)

Anni, thanks for the walking-over-the-pool-full-of-sharks description of that particular Performing Snail routine. Words failed me!I trust that your snails are "feral", not "wild". They look placid enough, to me (except from the perspective of a seedling lettuce). We also have plenty of native snails, but those ones are the introduced species, Helix aspersa.Denis

And to ease your mind further, what do you think happened to the ones in the picture? They were stepped on by a size 7 (or is it 8, 39 in European shoe sizes) female foot.Anni

Don't tell Jasper (or BJ, for that matter). I think BJ accepts that it happens, but she doesn't want us to feel satisfaction from it. Denis

You're all ghastly. Poor little snails! While my mother has been sick and thus OFF gardening/ snail and slug squashing duty, I'm supposed to have filled in for her - unfortunately, I have no passion for blood-and-guts work so the snails tend to find themselves picked up on leaves and transplanted to the grassy patch on the other side of the road. Whether they die peacefully or meet grizzly ends being trodden on by others, or shredded by lawn-mowers, or squished by cars, or eaten by birds, at least I'm only INDIRECTLY responsible. But they are annoying when they eat all the basil.I did enjoy the snail circus pictures, though.
