Andante-musiikkisivut, jotka sijaitsivat osoitteessa www.andante.com, on ajettu lopullisesti alas. Katoaminen ei ole kokonaan odottamaton käänne. Palvelu pätki eikä sivujen sisältö viime kuukausina enää päivittynyt. Ennen vanhaan Andante oli säännöllinen käyntikohde - laaja uutispalvelu, haastatteluja, artikkeleita ja konserttiäänitteitä. Hyvä tapa pysyä ajan tasalla klassisen musiikkimaailman uutisista. Olipa se välillä myös laiskan toimittajan idealaari.
Lopettamisuutinen harmittaa, sillä viisivuotiaaksi ehtinyt Andante oli varsinkin ensimmäisinä vuosinaan kunnianhimoinen klassisen musiikin nettijulkaisu. Sen takana oli neuvottelukunta, johon kuuluivat mm. säveltäjä-kapellimestari Pierre Boulez ja kamarilaulaja Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. Ongelmana oli, että sen olisi pitänyt sen lisäksi olla taloudellisesti kannattava. Viime vuodet Andante kuului ranskalaiselle Naïve-yhtiölle.
Näin poistuu linkki sivupalkista. Lisää yksityiskohtia Los Angeles Timesin uutisesta, joka mainitsee lopettamisen syynä myös ylitsepääsemättömät tekniset ongelmat. Alakuvassa Andanten kolmen CD-levyn paketti Mozartin pianokonserttoja historiallisina esityksinä.
Regular visitors of Andante classical music website might have had a hunch. Now their suspicions have been confirmed, and the site that used to be housed at www.andante.com has ceased to exist.
It is a terrible shame, for much of the five-or-so years of its existence, Andante was an incomparable web service, with an up-to-date, extensive news section, articles, interviews, concert recordings and even a series of CDs published under its own, Andante label. Behind Andante, there was a consultative committee consisting of people such as the composer-conductor Pierre Boulez and the singer Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.
Problems were twofold, according to The Los Angeles Times. Money - how to make the site profitable, or at least pay its own way. And then there were technical issues. In the past couple of months, the Andante site was first up and then down. It was no longer updated the way it used to be. Since 2003, Andante was owned by the French company Naïve.

This is very sad. I have one Andante set, 4 CDs of Schubert chamber music, performed by the likes of Cortot, Casals, Schnabel, Thibaud, Adolf & Herman Busch, Serkin, Kreisler, Rachmaninov...Beautiful remastering, informative notes, physically very satisfying to handle. I had a few more Andante sets on my wish list - too late now I guess.Michael's Music Room (Town Hall Arcade, Sydney) had a single copy of the Schubert set for sale yesterday (Monday, 14/2). If you're out there, don't hesitate.Now I'm off for a little private mourning, with the Busches and Serkin in the Andante from the Op. 100 Trio.
