Tämänpäiväinen dilemma
Today's dilemma
Takahuoneeseen majoittuu kahdeksi yöksi länsiaustralialainen pianisti-säveltäjä. Pyyhin sieltä pölyjä, ja nostaessani nuotteja Schumannin laulusarjan alta paljastui normaalikokoinen huntsman-hämähäkki (ks. edellinen merkintä tästä aiheesta, säästän imatralaisystävää enkä liitä oheen valokuvaa). Pyydystämisyritys epäonnistui, sillä otus piiloutui pianon sisään.
Pitäisikö pianistille mainita asiasta?

When I was dusting in the backroom today, I disturbed a normal-sized huntsman spider that had been napping under Schumann's Frauenliebe und Leben (see an earlier entry about these spiders). I tried to catch it in a dust bin but failed, and the creature disappeared inside the piano.
Pianist & composer Roger Smalley is coming for a visit today, and will spend two nights in the said backroom. Should I tell him?

A tough one! I suggest a response based on your knowledge of any of the following, as they apply to Mr Smalley:
(a) His blood pressure
(b) His previous personal experiences with Huntsmen
(c) His general arachnaphobic tendencies
(d) How much you think you would enjoy a giggle at his expense
(e) How likely he is to use the piano during his stay
(f) How likely the hunstman is to vacate the piano before he arrives
(g) How frequently the huntsman is likely to temporarily leave the piano and perambulate throughout his (Mr Smalley's) stay
(h) How egregious to the piano's comfort and wellbeing the huntsman may be
(i) How friendly this particular spider is
(j) How much you value your piano
(k) How much you value your acquaintance
(l) How much you would prefer not to have to deal with the situation until absolutely necessary

PS You might also experiment with playing some Schumann to your spidery friend. Does he, for example, prefer it to Schubert? Would he rather sleep to it (or under it) or sing along?

I am no longer worried about Mr. Smalley, since it has been established that he regards Huntsmen as harmless. And his 20-minute Schumann experiment failed to produce any spiders or audible spider Lied recitals from inside the piano.
Instead, I am wondering:
m) How many family members of the said Huntsman also currently reside inside the piano
n) If left undisturbed, how many family members of the said Huntsman will be residing inside the piano
o) What is David Rickett's (who tunes the piano) view of huntsman spiders

(p) If you leave (them?) there for long enough, will they become a multi-generational arachnid equivalent of the Bach family?
I suggest this for David Attenborough's next series.

Hi Anni,
An exquisite dilemma you posed.
If you had visitors who played Nursery Rhymes, instead of classical recitals, they could try "Spider Charming" with "Little Miss Muffett".

Gosh... I could have squashed Père Bach.
