A theme tune quiz

Viittasin aiemmin David Mendelsohnin artikkeliin Brokeback Mountain -elokuvasta. Keskustelu aiheesta jatkuu The New York Review of Booksin uusimmassa numerossa (6/2006), valitettavasti keskustelupuheenvuoroja ei näy lehden nettisivulla.

***

The music example above is a hint. 21 DVDs of which tv series arrived on our doorstep yesterday? This monstrous box, ordered by Andy as a 'little' surprise to me, is to be my comfort during the three weeks when Andy is away on business in April. (I suspect he also thinks he might not have to watch every single episode this way.)

Regarding David Mendelsohn's article about Brokeback Mountain, which I talked about the other day: the discussion continues in the latest issue (6/2006) of The New York Review of Books. Unfortunately not available on the magazine's website.

And one more link - this one is to a story in Tuesday's Guardian about the three alleged tenors in the British album top-10 chart.

It may be in Italian and it may be sung but "it's got bugger-all to do with opera".

Lovejoy!

Ensimmäinen palkinto meni Heidille.
The first prize went to Heidi.

And for those (Australians) who don't know what on Earth we are talking about, check this.

I am impressed that Heidi got your clues, Anni. (Was it the theme music for the series? Who remembers that? Or was it somehow a coded message?).
You have a very talented readership, Anni.

Thank heavens you explained that little mystery.
I loved the Lovejoy Series, and had no idea that you were a fan, Anni. Iam McShane played a loveable rogue.
Andy did very well to get the DVDs, as the link which you (mercifully) provided indicated the DVDs were not available on Amazon.
Cheers
Denis

It was my talented little sister Denis. I knew she would know it, I am rather surprised no one else got it before her. And yes, it is the theme music, or the beginning of it.

I am pretty sure it came from Amazon, actually. I see someone on the IMDB website is complaining about the quality, and the first series is indeed quite bad quality (both grainy and sometimes badly written and acted). But it all improves with the second series, they must have started to make more of an effort when they realised the series was quite popular with the audience.

I am not sure if I am a 21-DVD fan, it sounds a bit much. But it is entertaining.

And if Lovejoy doesn't keep you company over 21 lonely evenings (how tidy, that's 1 DVD per evening) I'll send Black Books down and you can learn to play the piano with spoons - but try not to squash JS. Or you can alternate the films, the series, and The Original And The Best of Pride and Prejudice! Who needs a husband when they have Mr Darcy?

(Sorry, Andy)

Hi Anni & Hi Angharad. Nice to see you can still manage to work Jane Austen into your responses. Obsession is a sign of a healthy mind, I believe. In your case, perhaps a "sigh" of a healthy mind?
And the answer to the question is: Miss Bennett, and half the female population of the English Speaking world who saw Colin Firth in the BBC production.

My apologies. Miss Elizabeth Bennet, apparently. Plus all the others, as above.

You lost me there, Denis. Do you mean everybody needs a husband regardless of Mr. Darcy? Or do you mean everybody wants Colin Firth as a husband (makes perfect sense when you think of it)?
