Minä ja seniorit
Me and the Silver-surfers

Australiassa rakastetaan teemaviikkoja. Yhdellä viikolla kuitataan nuorten asiat, toisella vanhusten.
Mielellään saa ehdottaa mielenkiintoisia blogeja joukkoon lisättäväksi (ruotsalainen Allan Lööf on jo mukana)!

Starting tomorrow, the State of New South Wales is celebrating Seniors' Week. Australian seniors are on the average a bit younger than their Finnish counterparts (you can get the Seniors' Card when you turn 60 provided you only work part-time), and based on my experience, somewhat more dynamic. (All this might have changed in the recent years for all that I know.) Still, at least in principle I am a bit too young to be heavily involved. This year, however, I am going to be talking to our local Seniors about blogging.
Quite some time ago, when I was still managing our local technology centre, I was regularly approached by people from associations and hobby groups who wanted to know if there was a low-cost, easy way to establish a website and contribute to it without html skills or expensive software. It took me far too long to realise that the blogging templates were just the thing.
So, this is what we will be talking about. There will be a quick tour to some interesting blogs and an equally quick demonstration on how to put together a Blogger website. Depending on participants, we might also take a look at some other blogging templates and the Flickr.com website.
We'll also be looking at some local blogs. I am a bit conscious of the fact that my own has an unusual amount of swearwords in it these last few days! And the other obvious, local blog (that of Denis's) has a none-too-cheerful post about a taking a break for chemotherapy at the top of his page. But such is blogging life!
Any suggestions for interesting senior sites are gladly received.

Pity it is too late for me to get to your talk and instruction on blogging. I can't get there in time!
There are dozens of excellent family history sites for any Seniors not already involved in looking back instead of forward. A health warning should be given, though - it is addictive.

Oh dear, I realise I should have interrogated you about the family history sites! But there are specific family history courses held at the CTC, so I trust the subject will be covered. I might do some research before tomorrow about blogs dedicated to family history, though.

Hi Anni
Gosh, you have been quoting people swearing about family life, recently, havn't you. And there was me, being dragged off to be chemicalised. Oh well, truth in the world of blogging!
Today I have published a fairy-tale story for you. Unfortunately, it is a little late for any course members to get a cheerful view of the world, via our blogs. Sorry if the timing of all this didn't suit.
And today, you have gone all Finnish on us, and encoded your "Disclaimer". I have attempted to follow your links, but I ended up on Sand Hill Road, Silicon Valley. I fear I got lost, as I have never seen such an expensive and powerful road in Robertson (perhaps Kangaloon Road and Tourist Road might compare?) I do hope that you will translate for us.
