Syksy vaihtuu kevääksi
As giddy as a baby on a swing

It is rainy and cold but suddenly it feels a lot like spring to me. (I know, Richard Rodgers wrote a song about this.) But no, it isn't my hormones, it is the spring bulbs that have started to flower. Bigger daffodils are still to come (lower picture), but sweet little jonquils are already in full bloom.
This is what I meant the other day when I was talking about three seasons and autumn turning to spring.
But I feel so gay
in a melancholy way
that it might as well be Spring.

It's nice to get that "first crazy flush of spring" feeling. For me it happened a few days ago, watching the Little Eagle floating on air above my house. (Blog 16/7/06) Not a "spring" moment, necessarily, but the same flush of excitement.
And today I saw the first pink buds of my Peonies poking throught the soil - that's a distant promise.

I love Jonquils. And daffadowndillies, of course. But best of all, their arrival precedes freesia season. Soon, soon!
At my old house, Spring meant waking up one morning to find the hitherto leafless Japanese Maple covered in lovely yellow-green leaves. Not so much here where everything seems to be evergreen. So I'm waiting for the light to change. Or that little scented gusting breeze that says Holidays are Coming!

Ja alakuvassa ruusut juuri lopettaneet kukintansa?

Blogisi on kivaa luettavaa. Sitä aina välillä mielenkiinnolla luen. Mukava tuulahdus maailmalta.

Hei Jaska - ne ovat kamelian lehtiä, ruusuilla on lepokausi, tai oikeastaan ne pitäisi leikata ja lannoittaa tässä lähiaikoina uutta kasvukautta varten.
Kiitos kaunis kommentista, Pirjo!
So your new peony season has started already, Denis! How nice, I thought it was way too early for that yet.
Freesias are your favourite, then, Angharad? I do love the fragrance and actually had some in the flower bed in front of the house. But they didn't like the spot and looked miserable. Or maybe it is the wrong climate, who knows.

Hi Anni
It is too early for my Peonies, yet. These are just their pink buds (leaf buds) showing through the soil. But still there is the first flush of a promise. A bit like feeling a fish "nibble" on a bait.

Yes, freesias seem to be a bit fussy. They grew in reams (the wrong word, but you know what I mean) where I grew up but they just don't take to my new suburb. For goodness' sake, it's only a few kilometres away!

Anni..a word with a certain resonance is (to me )rorter..you explored the roots of trough (another goodie) which combines to form Troughrorter. This describes a form of politico-corporate behaviour..this word came to me when our leaders were involved in a particularly nasty bit of deviousness...
