Huipulla tuulee
Climb every mountain...

Today, I was short of illustration ideas for a little transport related brochure. For once the perfect solution was obvious - on my desk I had Tilly's birthday drawing. I traced it in Illustrator et voilà! I will need to get clearance from the artist of course.
Robertson is situated on a hilltop (people refer to going 'down the mountain' when commuting to Wollongong). The road leading to the top of the escarpment is immensely curvy - beautifully realised in Matilda's work of art.

Yes, a steep curvy road, leading to a building with a big puff of smoke coming out the top. That's Wollongong.

It doesn't look like a steel factory to me... I thought it might be Albion Park.

I agree it is not how adults would draw the "dark satanic mills" of Wollongong's "New Jerusalem". However, Deb does not go around filling the minds of her children with such symbolism, so it is a simple, impressionistic image.

I particularly like Matilda's car. And the two different types of trees.
The car, come to think of it, bears a passing resemblance to Leonardo da Vinci's rather endearing design for a tank which my year 10 history class nicknamed "the putputput". Find an illustration of it beetling along and you'll see why.
Incidentally, while I was trying to find a good image of it, I was offered entry to a competition where first prize was "a trip to Leonardo's Italy." I had no idea that time travel was so affordable nowadays!

Sounds like a dangerous trip - maybe take some antibiotics with you, and tim tams.
Oh, I should have mentioned Tilly's original was a stylish black-and-white drawing.
