Etanoista ja plagioinnista
I am appalled

snailpath.jpgNyt on tämäkin nähty. Aloitin aamuni hinkkaamalla juuri öljytyltä kuistilta vaeltelevan etanan pointillistista limavanataidetta.

I never thought it would come to this: I started my morning by scrubbing snail footprints on the veranda. This rather artistic animal had been wandering on the freshly oiled deck overnight, with seemingly no other purpose than having his/her footprints immortalised before the second coat of oil was applied.

I never thought it would come to this, either: where is the world going to when nice, old ladies rip off hundreds of CD tracks in order to make comebacks as recording artists?! Here is what Gramophone tells about the scandal, this is the New York Times and this is a most interesting site by Pristine Audio about the same subject.

Just before finding your 'appalled' blog, I had cut out a piece from the Guardian about the same fake pianist, with a view to sending it in the next batch of cuttings. I must admit to being more intrigued by the technology that enables such fakes to be identified - clever stuff - than by the nerve of the person involved. Technology leaves me amazed on a regular basis!

You are quite right, it was after all a computer that recognised a fake as a fake!

"Flabbergasted" seems an appropriate word at this point. The Pristine Classical page and the CHARM report are both really interesting - it's amazing how they came to the same conclusion using different types of recording technology!

And what is the correct pronoun for discussing hermaphrodite snails?

Oops, point taken about the snails. I know they don't really have footprints, either. I am still quite fascinated about the elaborate path, I have a feeling the poor snail might have got a bit drunk because of oil vapours.

Hi Anni

Snails are gastropods, ("Stomach feet"), so they can have footprints, and/or belly prints.

I am intrigued that the prints were in regular sections - that part I do not understand. Very artistic, though. Glad you published the photo - it is an unusual phenomenon.

Gastropod - what a great word.

Eikö nuo etanan katkoviivajäljet olisi voinut jättää näkyviin? Hieno kuvio minusta. No, onneksi sentään dokumentoit ilmiön.

No kyllä minä sitä ihan hetken mietinkin, mutta porvarillinen minä voitti.
